List: Food, water, shelter offered in Benton County for displaced families after tornadoes (2024)

Several organizations and the community as a whole are coming together to help those who were displaced by Sunday morning's tornadoes.

BENTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — Tornadoes ripped through Benton County in the early morning of Sunday, May 26, leaving extensive damage throughout the area.

The severe weather caused at least eight deaths and multiple injuries—many are still listed as being in critical condition. There are currently downed power lines, fallen trees, and multiple gas leaks.

Thousands of people have been displaced from their homes being severely damaged or power being out. Some electric companies are telling customers to expect to be out of power for multiple days. Here's how to check power outages.

In the meantime, several organizations and the community as a whole are coming together to help those who were displaced by Sunday morning's tornadoes.

How you can help

The Rogers Police Department (RPD) said to avoid areas that can block emergency crews from responding to areas of need. 5NEWS has also heard reports from cleanup crews saying there are distracted drivers in the areas with extensive damage because they're trying to get video or pictures of the damage, and because of it, are driving recklessly.

Officials say to drive through these areas only if you absolutely need to — and if you do, don't use your phone while driving.

Residents can help by checking on neighbors, especially the elderly. If there is debris in your area that you can safely help with, RPD said it lets them "get to the big stuff."

Sheep Dog Impact Assistance, a non-profit volunteer emergency support group, is mobilizing to help those in need across the area. To learn more about their cause, residents can go to their website here.

Rogers High School has become a safe haven offering food, shelter, electricity, and stability. They are accepting volunteers. More information can be found in our article here.
