Chests are storage items that each hold up to 40 item stacks in rows of 10×4 / 8×5 / 5×8 / 5×4 (only 20 item stacks). Chests can be broken with any pickaxe or drill, but only when empty. It is impossible to destroy the blocks underneath a placed Chest that contains items.

Could Lava Charms perhaps be added to the Shadow Chest loot table? It would make a lot more sense then just finding them in random chests towards the bottom of the world, and should give players a more reliable way of getting one, apart from having to fish for crates in Hell.
