Obituaries were received for Stephen Williams, 55, of Attleboro,Josephine Birch, 80, of North Attleboro, Robert Johnson, 58, ofNorton, and John Carey Jr., 66, of Wrentham

Stephen Williams, 55, City auditor, CPA

ATTLEBORO — Stephen D. Williams, 55, of Oakhill Avenue, diedMonday of a self-inflicted gun shot wound. He was the husband ofKristen (Blue) Williams.

Born in Central Falls, R.I., he was a son of the late Charlesand Ellen (Hutton) Williams. He had lived in Attleboro for the past25 years, previously living in North Attleboro and Pawtucket. Hewas a graduate of Bryant College, Class of 1959, where he receiveda bachelor's of arts degree.

Mr. Williams was a self-employed certified public accountant aswell being the auditor for the City of Attleboro.

He was an Army veteran and had been stationed in Germany forthree years.

Mr. Williams was a member of the Rhode Island Society of CPAs,the American Institute of CPAs, the Rhode Island State Board ofAccounting and the Massachusetts State Board of Accounting.

He was a sponsor of Attleboro Youth Baseball and a supporter ofthe Attleboro, Bishop Feehan, Dighton-Rehoboth and North AttleboroFootball Captains, the Attleboro Police Association and AttleboroHigh School. He was a former coach and treasurer for the AttleboroYouth Basketball Association.

Mr. Williams served on the board of directors of CommunityVisiting Nurses Agency and the Community Health Systems from 1989to 1996 where he held leadership positions. He was a board memberand treasurer of Crosslight, Inc. of Attleboro.

He was an avid golfer and member of Mensa.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, MichaelWilliams of Attleboro; two daughters, Erin Dwyer of Honolulu,Hawaii and Amy Williams of Attleboro; two sisters, Susan Master ofWorcester and Carol Williams of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; fournieces and a nephew.

A memorial service in the celebration of his life will be heldat 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Centenary United Methodist Church, 15Sanford St. Burial will be private.

Arrangements are by the Foley-Hathaway Funeral Home, 126 SouthMain St.

Josephine Birch, 80, worked at Fernandes

NORTH ATTLEBORO — Josephine T. Birch, 80, of 202 Elm Terrace,died Friday at Ridgewood Court Nursing Home in Attleboro. She wasthe widow of John J. Birch.

Born in Dublin, Ireland on Feb. 7, 1919, she was the daughter ofthe late John J. and Johana (Purcell) Croke. She settled inAttleboro in 1950 and moved to North Attleboro in 1962.

She was employed at the former Fernandes Supermarket inPlainville for 19 years, retiring in 1976.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in North Attleboroand a member of the Daughters of Isabella Benedict Circle.

She is survived by a brother, Michael J. Croke of NorthAttleboro, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of thelate John C. Croke.

A funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Duffy-PouleFuneral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass inSt. Mary's Church, 14 Park St., North Attleboro.

Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, West Street,Attleboro.

Robert Johnson, 58, retired machinist

NORTON — Robert P. Johnson, 58, died Thursday at the PleasantManor Nursing Home in Attleboro.

Born in Attleboro on March 21, 1941, he was a son of the lateHarry and Ada (Mowatt) Johnson. He was a lifelong Norton resident.He was a graduate of Norton High School and had attended FranklinTechnical Institute in Boston.

Mr. Johnson was a machinist for the Foxboro Company where he hadworked for 17 years, retiring 10 years ago.

He is survived by a son, Keith Saunders of Hawaii; a sister,Patricia Scarpellini of Norton; a grandson, a niece and anephew.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Sherman& Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burialwill be in the Norton Common Cemetery.

John Carey Jr., 66, supervisor at Pond Home

WRENTHAM — John J. Carey Jr., 66, died Tuesday in the BostonMedical Center, Boston. He was the husband of Mary (Doherty)Carey.

Born in Boston on Dec. 28, 1932, he was a son of the late JohnSr. and Alice (Tirnan) Carey. He was a graduate of Boston publicschools and had lived in Wrentham for the last 30 years.

Mr. Carey had been employed by the Continental Baking Co. ofNatick for 20 years. He had been the maintenance supervisor at thePond Home in Wrentham for 10 years and had also worked at theformer Russ's Mobil Station in Wrentham.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John Carey ofWrentham; two daughters, Joan Farquharson of North Attleboro andKathleen Marino of Wrentham, and a brother, George Carey ofWhitman.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in St.Mary's Church, South Street. Burial will be in Wrentham CenterCemetery.

Arrangements are by the R.J. Ross Funeral Home, 135 SouthSt.
